Quite famous in the region for their “It’s An Edmonds Kind Of Day” bumper stickers, the site that is now the City of Edmonds was discovered by a logger named George Backett in the 1870s. Incorporated in 1890, the city is nearly as old as the State of Washington. It is the oldest incorporated city in Snohomish County. With steep hills rising up from the water, what once created isolation now creates splendid vistas. Check out the Edmonds Historical Society’s summary of Edmonds’s history.
With a population of 39,709, Edmonds is the third largest city in Snohomish County. The Edmonds Station (Amtrak and Sounder trains) and the Edmonds/Kingston Ferry set Edmonds up as a major transportation hud for the region. Yet it works hard and maintains a very small town charm. The old downtown is very pedestrian friendly and hosts many fun events, including the Farmer’s Market (Saturdays through Spring into early Autumn), the Taste of Edmonds and the Edmonds Classic Car Show.
A fantastic arts community resides within Edmonds. The Edmonds Center for the Arts brings in a wide variety high caliber acts throughout the year.
